Mrs. Nelson's Toy and Book Shop opened it's doors in 1985 with the goal of helping parents inspire a love of reading in their children. To do so, we have a friendly, knowledgeable staff, offer a broad selection of books and host a variety of in-store events, such as:
* story times and crafts
* writing workshops
* advanced readers club
* young authors writing contest
* school field trips
* guest authors and illustrators
We've been fortunate enough to host prominent children's book authors and illustrators such as Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Lemony Snicket (Series of Unfortunate Events), Jon Scieszka (True Story of the Three Little Pigs), Brian Jacques (Redwall), Greg Mortensen (Three Cups of Tea), Robin Preiss Glasser (Fancy Nancy), Laurie Halse Anderson (Speak) and Dav Pilkey (Captain Underpants).
Mrs. Nelson's is an independent, family owned bookstore that has grown to include a book fair company for school fundraisers and a library services division which provides reinforced books and custom processing for schools and libraries. Combined, all three branches have given back to the community, having donated over $850,000 to local schools and organizations.
As we continue to grow, our focus remains to inspire young readers.
