Bower's fun read about flirting - and the fun/disastrous consequences it can bring - is enjoyable and has a positive, unexpectedly feminist message. I loved it and so will teen girls!

Kody Keplinger's writing is always smart, witty, and a spot-on teen voice. When it comes to reliable and relatable teen angst, Keplinger is the best! Her newest book, about a teen adjusting to a brand-new step-family (including a stepbrother she has a "history" with), is fun, snarky, and true. A great crossover book!

Smart girls will love Strohmeyer's newest read - it's fun and frothy and gives intelligent girls the credit they deserve! Here's hoping this author continues to write YA and I'm sure her teen readers will agree!

Fans of Laurie Halse Anderson's Wintergirls should check out Zoe Letting Go, which also illustrates the pain and destructiveness of eating disorders. An important read for teens, parents, and teachers!

Friend's newest reminded me a lot of Deenie, the classic by Judy Blume: a teen who has always been singled out as "the pretty one" by her mother suffers some form of disfigurement (in this case, a car accident) and doesn't know how to form an identity outside of her looks. Friend also explores other issues, such as a friendship poisoned by envy and guys who aren't what you think they are. I enjoyed My Life in Black and White and I know teens will too!

Tokyo Heist (Hardcover)

Published: Viking Juvenile, 6/2012
Tokyo Heist is a smart, fun mystery with classic art and manga thrown in - and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Teens will love this whodunit that takes place in Seattle and Japan, and so will adults!

Burn Mark (Hardcover)

Published: Bloomsbury USA Childrens, 6/2012
Powell's impressive debut, about modern-day witches and the witch-hunts that follow, had me hooked from page one! A tale of adventure, intrigue, politics, and romance, Burn Marks is sure to be a crossover hit - and prompt lots of interesting discussions among its readers!
